Yes, that’s right – SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture is back for 2018! Once again we’re bringing the best of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, and Queer (LGBTQ) Arts and Culture to Birmingham. Returning for our 9th year, SHOUT 2018 will present 10 days of the best in queer live performance, theatre, visual arts, comedy, music, and film at over 14 venues across the city.
2018 marks 30 years since the introduction (and 15 years since the repeal) of Section 28, which banned local authorities and schools from “promoting” homosexuality. The world of 2018 does not look so different from that of 30 years ago: with the rise of hate crime, polarized politics, transphobia, misogyny, homophobia, biphobia, and racism, our representation feels more important than ever.
With that in mind this year’s festival celebrates queer relationships. SHOUT 2018 explores the connections we make with each other, the ways we construct and build family, how we identify with ourselves and with one another, and how we share our stories and raise our voices (oh, and there’s a healthy amount of glitter thrown in for good measure).
